For 2011, the Ford Explorer has experienced a huge face lift. The Explorer, Ford's large SUV, has been updated and refreshed to feature improved on-road dynamics, improved fuel efficiency, higher quality interior, numerous high-tech features and better handling. The vehicle has already been awarded the 2011 North American Truck of the Year and has been praised for is best-in-class 25 mpg.

The 2011 Ford Explorer is more powerful with its new standard engine, a 3.5-liter 290 horsepower V6. The new standard engine is more fuel efficient and provides quicker acceleration than the previous model year. The two-wheel drive model features 25 mpg highway and allows for a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Also available is the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 237 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque.

The interior of the Explorer is updated and refreshed. The SUV offers a roomier cabin and stylish higher quality materials. The spacious interior can carry up to seven passengers and features three rows of seats. If more cargo space is desired, the second and third rows can be folded flat to provide 80.7 cubic feet of cargo room. Besides plenty of space the Explorer's high quality materials give the vehicle an upscale look.

The Explorer offers a variety of high-tech goodies to make life on the road easier and more enjoyable. The available MyFord Touch, Ford's in-car connectivity system, allows drivers to use simple voice commands to make calls and choose music all while keeping their eyes on the road. Ford SYNC keeps drivers connected to the world. Its features include hands-free calls, traffic and direction information, audible text messages and 911 Assist. The SUV can also be equipped with the available hands-free Active Park Assist feature. This technology parallel parks the vehicle with the simple press of a button. If a premium audio system is desired, the available SONY Audio System utilizes surround technology and 12 premium speakers. In addition, the 2011 Ford Explorer, can be furnished with heated and cooled seats, an advanced navigation system and dual headrest DVD players.

Numerous safety features come standard on the Explorer, including stability and traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, trailer sway control and MyKey, Ford's program that allows parents to specify stereo volume and specify the vehicle's speed limits. Higher trim levels can also be fitted with a blind-spot warning system and collision warning.

The Explorer's impressive new updates led to the vehicle being named the 2011 North American Truck of the Year. The reinvented SUV was praised for it being the most fuel efficient full size SUV of the year with an astounding 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway with the new standard V6 engine. The judging panel was also impressed with the Explorer's new exterior styling and restyled interior.
