Peugeot Onyx supercar concept (2012) first pictures
Peugeot Onyx supercar concept (2012) first pictures. This angular beast is the Peugeot Onyx concept. It's a diesel-hybrid
supercar that boats a mid-mounted V8 engine, but forget the tech - this
is much more a design study that nay serious interpretation of an
upcoming Peugeot flagship.
Instead, concentrate on the bare copper panels and one-piece
felt-covered interior. It's a true fantasy concept, and will be on
display at the Paris motor show later this month.
Peugeot's Paris show Onyx concept
The Onyx's most distinguishing feature are the bare copper wings and
doors. And you thought the days of Peugeot cars that corroded in the
rain were over! Strictly, the Onyx isn't going to dissolve after
exposure to inclement weather - it's all deliberate.
Because of the patina the Onyx would build over time as its copper
reacts, Peugeot touts the car as being alive, with a changing form. Read
into that what you will, but we wouldn't expect to see the copper-top
finish available on your common-or-garden 208 supermini any time soon.
The rest of the body panels are far more conventional (in supercar
terms): they're all carbonfibre, painted in fashionable matt black.
Isn't the Onyx a bit pie-in-the-sky?
Exactly. The Peugeot Onyx concept is by no means a serious production proposition. What it does demonstrate (like the Nissan Terra concept,
also starring at Paris) is that car companies still have flair and
imagination they're proud to show off, even in the dire straits of the
current European industry crisis.
