Vilner Promises "5-Star Luxury" for Four Passengers in New Mercedes-Benz GL SUV Tune

Vilner Promises "5-Star Luxury" for Four Passengers in New Mercedes-Benz GL SUV Tune - One of the main reasons why Mercedes-Benz developed the GL-Class was to offer buyers a bigger alternative to the closely related ML-Class SUV with additional space to accommodate seven passengers in three rows of seats.

However, one particular owner of the previous generation GL-Class had no need for the extra seats and was looking for a way to up the luxury ante for the rear passengers. Here is where Bulgarian design studio Vilner stepped in.

The company's solution was to ditch the two rear rows of seats and replace them with a pair of individual seats (with softer padding) sourced from the front passenger compartment of another GL-Class model while also designing a new center console complete with an armrest, cup holders and an aluminum iPad cradle.

Vilner then reworked the entire cabin adding extra doses of soundproof material from Ground Zero and dressed the interior in a mix of lavish leather and Alcantara. The final touch came with a new high-end audio system that can be controlled by an iPad.

2012 Vilner Mercedes-Benz GL. Vilner’s customer was looking for an individual engagement in his Mercedes, for luxurious recreation according to his wishes and visions. His wish was a 4-seater oasis, where one doesn’t feel the road, immersed in a world filled with high-quality music, relaxing and not feeling the space … Of course the iPad should not be missing. Where one can carry the entire luggage needed to get to the moon and back.

Vilner worked up the bottom of the chassis, exchanging the rear two seats with two front GL thrones, which still fulfill all functions of the front seats. Luxury must grow, and not decrease! An additional center console was installed – an extension of the front console. On that console an aluminum pillar was integrated, designed for the iPad, which can rotate in all directions.

The headliner was made of light-brown Alcantara, the plastic parts were painted white and now these come together with the headliner. The emphasis shifted to the relief color pattern, borrowed from the interior of Bugatti Veyron. This color pattern can be seen on the car door inner sides, and in addition to the esthetic function it is also soundproofed. The whole cab was covered with soundproof material from Ground Zero. For a better comfort of the occupants, Vilner softened additionally the rear part of the front seats. An ambient lighting was installed.

All that remains is to enjoy the sound of silence … or the sound of the powerful new audio system. It was installed in the trunk and precisely adjusted for the rear two occupants. They will feel the whole power of the 4-volume audio system, two subwoofers, three amplifiers, (two 4-channel and 1 mono-block), audio processor Audison, 31-band equalizer TSP. All controlled by the iPad.
